CID probe ordered into girl student�s suicide

AGARTALA, May 30 - Taking a serious note of suicide of a promising tribal student, Tripura Government on Tuesday ordered a CID probe into the incident. She was allegedly harassed by employees of a city-based shopping mall and humiliated by her school authority.

The girl � Lahari Debbarma (17) ended her life by hanging herself in her residence at Bir Mohan Chowdhury Para, 23 km from the capital town on May 24.

Lahari, who stood first in XII CBSE Examination in Commerce stream from Auxilium Girls� School this year, had committed suicide after she was being allegedly harassed by employees of Big Bazaar employees on the allegation that she had stolen clothes worth Rs 4,000.

Lahari�s mother � Dipali Debbarma has lodged an FIR at Sidhai police station in West Tripura district on May 28 alleging that her daughter had to commit suicide after being harassed by the Manager of Big Bazaar, Agratala and Principal of the school, who had scolded her after she had got freed from Big Bazaar on May 24 by paying Rs 4,000.

Dy Chief Minister Dev Varma said, �I have spoken to DGP AK Sukla and asked him to hand over the case to CID for an impartial inquiry into the incident. The persons, who are responsible for the tragic incident, will not be spared.�

�The government will provide Rs 5 lakh to the victim�s family on humanitarian ground�, the Dy CM said.

�A case under section 306 IPC (abetment to suicide) was lodged accusing Big Bazaar authority and school authority for Lahari�s suicide. The FIR was filed by victim�s mother � Dipali Debbarma�, said SP (West) Rajib Pratap Singh at a press conference yesterday.

�We have seized CCTV footage of the day and examined them. The investigating officer has also seized mobile phone of the deceased and checked messages there�, Singh added.
