CID forms special investigating team

By SANJOY RAY

GUWAHATI, Dec 8 - To expedite the investigation into the spine-chilling Jogdal mass murder case, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today constituted a special investigating team, which today revisited the murder spot and verified the land records.

Immediately after being constituted, the three-member team of investigators also visited the Circle Office of Sonapur where the land records of the area in question were verified, sources told The Assam Tribune.

Ever since the murder of the six members of a family, including Harakanta Doloi and his wife Swapna Doloi, took place in December 2009 in Jogdal area under Sonapur Police Station, speculations were rife about the murder being orchestrated to take possession of the land the family was occupying, only to build a luxury hotel there. The names of former Congress minister Akon Bora and his son also surfaced from time to time, although Bora had denied his involvement and instead termed it as a political conspiracy.

The records in the Sonapur Police Station were also scrutinized, official sources said, adding, The witnesses of the case will be re-examined in a phased manner.

Sources further confide that there could be more than one motive behind the gruesome mass murder.

Meanwhile, the CID has sought prosecution sanctions from the respective Superintendents of Police of Kamrup and Biswanath Chariali districts to make way for naming the two arrested police officials in its first part-charge-sheet in the case.

The investigating agency is likely to file its first part-charge-sheet very soon.

The CID has recently arrested Pranab Deka, the then Officer in-Charge of the Sonapur Police Station and Abdul Matlif Choudhury, the then investigating officer, on charges of destruction of evidence in the case. The duo is currently in judicial custody.
