Churchill to take on Lajong tomorrow

By The Assam Tribune

MARGAO, Dec 16 (PTI): Churchill Brothers, on a high after their wins over table toppers Dempo and Chirag United Kerala, are now aiming to move to the top of the standings as they take on Shillong Lajong tomorrow in the 10th round of the I-League, here.

Churchill Brothers, who came from behind to beat Chirag United Kerala in their last match, have closed the gap to one point over Dempo who are at the top with 21 points, and a win at the Nehru Stadium will see them at the top of the ladder for the first time.

Churchill are in fine form, pocketing ten points from their last four games after their first loss against Mohun Bagan, and looked like real title challengers against Dempo, a game they won with the help of goals from Antun Kovacic and Henry Antchouet.

Churchill Brothers coach Manuel Gomes knows how important tomorrows match is for them.

We need to win tomorrow as we have a good chance to move to the top for the first time, stated Gomes.

Lajong, who have come here with a victory against Mumbai FC, are placed ninth with 12 points from nine matches, and are expected to put up a strong challenge against the Goan.

Lajong coach Pradhyum Reddy is happy that his boys are playing well.

Its a tough match and it is going to be a challenge against Churchill Brothers who have the advantage of playing at home. We have our task cut out and are ready to put up a fight, and hopefully, collect a point if not a win, said Reddy.
