GUWAHATI, Nov 30 - The Guwahati Baptist Church, Panbazar, is gearing up to celebrate Christmas and New Year's Day in a befitting manner. Programmes at the church will begin with the Holy Communion Service on December 2.
"Following this, the joy of Christmas will be shared with the children of Red Cross Home, inmates of Asha Bhawan, State Women's Home and the Central Jail in the city on different dates. Christmas will be heralded by house-to-house carolling by youths and women of the church from the second week of the month. The youths and women will have a pre-Christmas celebration on December 15," A Haque, Pastor of the Guwahati Baptist Church, said in a statement.
Christmas Eve service will begin at the church at 5 pm on December 24, when a play on the birth of Jesus titled 'Nativity' will be staged by the Sunday School department of the church. The Christmas service will begin at 9.15 am on December 25 and a special musical programme will begin at 4 pm on that day.
George Gideon from Silchar will be the guest speaker for the Christmas service. There will be an annual sports event, followed by community feast on December 26 at Nichols School premises. The Watch Night service will be held at 11 pm on December 31, followed by New Year's Day service at 9.15 am on January 1 in which Rev Dr PC Gine from Kolkata will bring the message.
