Chitrangada staged at Shilpgram

GUWAHATI, Oct 31 � A dance drama on Friday evening added colour to the festive spirit of the ongoing Discover North East extravaganza at Shilpgram here.

Presented by the artistes of Darpan Dance Akademi, the musical drama Chitrangada lightened up the ambience.

It was part of the five-day festival � Discover North East �organised by North East Zone Cultural Centre, under the Union Ministry of Culture.

Chitrangada, a play by Rabindranath Tagore was directed and designed by Abinash Sarma.

The painting exhibition and crafts mela have been a crowd puller during the festival days.

The food stalls with diversified ethnic food items also drew huge gatherings. �It was wonderful to taste different food items here at Shilpgram. This kind of festivals should take place regularly in our city. It will also help us to know each other�s culture in a better way,� Umesh Talukdar, a visitor said.

The previous evening where Zubeen Garg and Zubilee performed on the occasion of Discover North East, in an attempt for solidarity in the region witnessed huge gathering.

�The participation of more people will help our cause of discovering northeast which is meant to bridge the gap among the northeastern people. We are hopeful that our goal will be fulfilled,� NEZCC director Lipokmar Tzudir said.

Earlier, the festival had a great beginning as NEZCC took out the artistes to perform in Jagiroad as a part of its fanning out programme.
