By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, March 14 - Chirang district unit of National Students Union of India (NSUI), a student wing of the Congress party, on Sunday opposed the likely candidature of Biswajit Ray, former leader of All Koch-Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU), in Bijni Assembly seat.

Bijni unit of Congress party on organised a meeting in the town to felicitate Biswajit Ray for joining the party. Amid the programme, NSUI activists expressed their displeasure before Rakesh Brahma, president of the partys Chirang district unit against Biswajit Ray. The students body also handed over a memorandum in this regard to Brahma.

We welcome Biswajit Ray in our party, but we oppose him as a ticket seeker of the party for Bijni seat. Biswajit Ray is a new to this party and already five active Congress activists have sought the party ticket for Bijni seat in Chirang district. We want anyone among the five to get the ticket. Former AKRSU leader can ask this ticket in next Assembly polls for this seat, said Bhaskar Ray, president of Chirang district unit of the NSUI.

Most of the Congress workers are not ready to accept Biswajit Ray as the party candidate in Bijni seat, Bhaskar added.

However, Rakesh Brahma could not be contacted despite several attempts.
