AGARTALA, Aug 18 - A Chinese delegation comprising industrialists and investors is scheduled to visit Guwahati and Agartala next month to explore feasibility of possible investment in Northeastern region, said Tripura Health and Family Welfare Minister Sudip Roy Barman.

The Chinese delegation will be landing at Guwahati in September where it is scheduled to attend an interface with representatives of all the Northeastern States, he told the media here after returning from China.

Roy Barman was part of a ten-member Indian delegation, which visited Chinas Guangzhou region for four days to attract investment in NE.

The main meeting aimed at attracting Chinese investment was held at Chinas Guangzhou region, where industrialists and foreign investors of China were present, the Minister said on Saturday, adding that officials of both countries also attended the first meeting.

In the meeting, Roy Barman invited the Chinese entrepreneurs and investors to visit Tripura, where an industrial friendly atmosphere is prevailing.

On his part, he highlighted the potential sectors in the State where investment could be made for mutual benefits. Rail, road and air connectivity have improved a lot over the past few years in Tripura. High speed Internet facility is available here and connectivity with neighbouring Bangladesh also exist, he stated.

Roy Barman continued, Tripura will be a gateway to the entire Northeastern region with Feni bridge coming up by next one year. Once the bridge is open, the entire NE could use Bangladeshs Chittagong port.

He also said that Information Technology could be one of the best bet for the Chinese investors as it still remains unexplored. Natural resources like gas and rubber may be chosen for investment areas as the State is very rich as far as raw materials are concerned, he added.

A Chinese delegation will visit Guwahati and Agartala next month to know the ground reality and explore feasibility of investment in the industrial sector. We hope, there will be a positive impact after the visit by Indian delegation headed by BJP general secretary Ram Madhav.

The initiative was jointly taken by Ministry of Industries and Commerce and India Foundation, a NGO run by the BJP general secretary.
