Chill, fog mark State weather

GUWAHATI, Jan 10 � There is a likelihood of moderate to dense fog engulfing isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura during the next 42 hours from this afternoon, said a warning issued by the Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) here in its daily weather bulleting today.

It also forecast a clear sky becoming partly cloudy over the city. Besides, there is a likelihood of fog or mist covering the city in the morning hours tomorrow. The minimum temperature in the city will remain around 10� Celsius, which is normal for the city during the current period.

The city today recorded a minimum temperature of 8.5� Celsius, while Dibrugarh recorded a minimum temperature of 6.5� Celsius, which was 2� Celsius below normal for the period. The maximum temperature recorded by Dibrugarh today was 1� Celsius above normal for the period.

Tezpur today recorded a minimum temperature of 8.6� Celsius, which was 2� Celsius below normal for the period. The North Assam town recorded a 1� Celsius above normal maximum temperature today.

With 9.5� Celsius minimum temperature, Silchar today recorded a 3� Celsius below normal minimum temperature. North Lakhimpur, with 4.6� Celsius minimum temperature, today recorded 4� Celsius below normal minimum temperature. With 2.8� minimum temperature for the day, Kohima in Nagaland recorded a 5� below normal minimum temperature for the period, said the RMC bulletin.

The cold weather situation has, meanwhile, left a telling impact on the common people, who are now hit hard by the rising prices of essential commodities and fuels. Elderly persons and children are compelled to sit by the fire or room heaters, while warm water bath has become mandatory for the people.

The roads in Guwahati these days wore a deserted look in the evening hours due to the chill outdoors.
