By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 24 - Antaranga, in association with Anand Academy, will present Xihote Khelisil on July 27 at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra at 6.30 pm.

This play is based on a novel by the same name by Bandita Phukan, who has endeared herself to the young generation with her lucid writings for children.

Adapted and directed by Antara GG Choudhury, the play highlights childhood innocence and bonding through the main characters Sonti, Aziz and Bubul.

It needs mention here that the young people who will be taking the stage on July 27 had all participated in a theatre in education workshop and had learned the nitty-gritty of acting and production, apart from imbibing social skills and creative interests.

The novel is very entertaining. I have introduced a few changes so that society can get the message. On the other hand, children have their own way of reaching out to the audience and the young artistes have worked hard, said Choudhury, adding that this play revolves round the aspirations of childhood and the change that has come over in society, restricting space, freedom and energy of childhood.

Choudhury further said that the play also has an important aspect related to disability and how this factor can never be a hurdle to achieving ones dreams.

Because of the support and encouragement of Sonti and Aziz, Bubul could overcome all inhibitions and hurdles and step out into a world of light and hope, Choudhury said, elaborating a little on the play that brings into focus two generations the present that lives a restricted life and the older that lived every day of life enjoying the beauty of nature.

Twenty-two children are in this play, that has a strong message for society to make an effort to provide more space and greenery to the young generation so that they can grow up with a balanced personality.
