Child among 3 feared drowned in Brahmaputra

GUWAHATI, July 6 - Three persons, including a two-year-old baby, are feared drowned in the river Brahmaputra near Uzanbazar.

The incident took place around 4 pm today when Kusum Devi (24) and Sonam Devi (23) went to the riverside to take a walk along with Garv, the two-year-old son of one Rudra Upadhyay, a resident of Manipuri Basti area.

Kusum and Sonam along with the family of Rudra Upadyay, went to the area to attend a marriage ceremony at a temple located in Uzanbazar area.

"Both the girls went to the riverside along with the baby and somehow the baby fell into the river. While trying to rescue the baby, both of them jumped into the water and are missing since then," police said.

Kusum Devi and Sonam Devi are students of SB Deorah College and are residents of Manipuri Basti area under Paltan Bazaar police station.

NDRF team has been pressed into action but no inputs about the whereabouts of the missing have been reported so far.
