Chhath Puja committees asked to instal CCTVs

GUWAHATI, Nov 16 - With Assam having a history of attacks on Hindi-speaking people and disturbance during the Chhath Puja celebrations, security measures have been intensified to prevent any untoward incidents during the celebrations and the major venues of the celebrations have already been sensitised.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati city, Mukesh Agarwala said that adequate security personnel have been deployed in the major venues of Chhath Puja and senior officers, including himself, visited the venues to closely monitor the situation.

He said that special control rooms have been set up in the major venues along with communication network. He said that in addition to police, personnel of the fire and emergency services, State and National Disaster Response Force and health personnel have been deployed in the venues.

The Police Commissioner said that all the puja committees have been asked to instal CCTV cameras and engage volunteers. The Assam Police personnel trained up the volunteers today so that they can play an effective role in preventing any disturbance. River patrolling has also been intensified to prevent ultras from using the river routes to enter the city.
