Chenga selected for Total Sanitary Mission

BARPETA May 31 � Chenga Development Block in Barpeta district has been selected for Total Sanitary Mission under the Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan and each family under this block will have a sanitary toilet within the current year. This was informed by Annada Prasad Sarma, Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering Department on Saturday.

Addressing a public meeting organised by the District Water and Sanitation Committee at Chenga to make the people aware about cleanliness and sanitation as well as about the facilities to be provided to them under the special scheme, Sarma said that Chenga along with three other development blocks in the State has been selected for this purpose and a sanitary toilet in each family will be built within the current year.

Addressing the meeting as the chief guest, Sukur Ali Ahmed, PHE Minister opined that the purpose of the Total Sanitary Mission is very noble and sought the cooperation of all the officials and people to implement it. He stated that he will personally keep a vigil on building a sanitary toilet in each family but at the same time requested the people to notice the quality and quantity of the materials used and the works done. He also informed that he has deputed special representatives to observe the activities and at the same time requested the people to inform him and the Deputy Commissioner in case any anomaly is noticed.

The Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Varnali Deka in her speech briefed the people about the evils of open defecation and the need of a hygienic environment for maintaining sound health. Invited guests Pratul Choudhury and Amarjyoti Kashyap also spoke on the occasion. A street play was also staged on the subject. Later, the Deputy Commissioner and the Minister jointly inaugurated the construction of a sanitary toilet at Subha village under the block.
