Charaideo lift Indu Hazarika trophy

GUWAHATI, Feb 3 - Charaideo annexed the title in the Indu Hazarika U-19 Inter District School Football Tournament organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare.

In the well contested summit clash at the SAI playground in Paltan Bazar here today, Charaideo prevailed over Lakhimpur by a clear margin of 3-1 goals.

Jun Kharia put the winning team ahead in the 46th minute after a dry first session. Hidanta Chetia enhanced the margin in the 64th minute and Siva Tanti made it 3-0 in the 69th minute.

Despite playing a skilful and well balanced game, the Lakhimpur boys failed to hit the target. However in the 78th minute they finally managed to reduce the margin through Abhi Dev Nath.

Veteran sports journalist Premadhar Sharma was the chief guest in the closing function. Director of Sports Dharmakanta Mili, Joint Director Partha Pegu, SAI Director of city centre Subhash Basumatary, Assistant Director of Sports Nabajyoti Basumatary, former deputy director Pradip Hazarika, former international footballer Debashis Roy, sports organiser Ibocha Singh, among others were also present in the prize distribution ceremony.

Jun Kharia of the winning team was adjudged best player of the final.
