Charaideo fest gets under way

SONARI, Jan 3 - The 30th biennial conference of the Purvanchal Tai Sahitya Sabha and Charaideo festival got under way at the Chao Lung Siu-Ka-Pha Kshetra, Charaideo on Monday.

The three-day long programme began with the hoisting of religious flag under the aegis of Pandit Parishad, Assam. Rajdeep Bailung Baruah, Executive Editor, Pratidin Times inaugurated the Charaideo Festival. He urged the organisers to make this festival a State festival in the coming years. A meeting was held on this ocassion with Dambaru Rajkonwar, president, celebration committee in the chair. On behalf of the Princess of Thailand, her representative Tanaya was present in the meeting. He felt proud that a section of Tai people were residing in Thailand and that they are very anxious to know the origins of Tai-Ahoms of Assam. He assured full cooperation on the the part of the Thailand Government in establishing Charaideo as a World Heritage site.

Addressing the gathering, Juan Mohan, MLA, Mahmora LAC recalled the contributions of Ahom Swargadeos in building Assam. Kushal Deori, MLA, Thowra LAC; Lurinjyoti Gogoi, secretary, AASU; Hiranya Konwar, former Minister were also present among others. Later in the evening, an exhibition, book fair, ethnic food mela were inaugurated at the site of the festival.
