MIRZA, Dec 30 - The Chandubi Festival will being on January 1, 2016 and will conclude on January 5.

According to Debojit Napha, adviser of the Chandubi Festival organising committee, Chief Executive Member of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, Tangkeswar Rabha will inaugurate the festival.

Sources said the festival is being organised since the last few years with an objective to popularise the famous Chandubi Beel and its adjoining vibrant forests to attract tourists to the area and also to showcase the rich art and culture of the Rabha tribe.

Prominent actress Chetana Das will on January 1 inaugurate the cultural stage, which has been made with bamboo, cane and straw.

The souvenir titled Lokeya will be released by senior journalist Anuradha Sarma Pujari on January 1 at 12 noon. On the second day, a colourful cultural procession will be flagged off by singer Namita Bhattacharjee at 11 am. Bogejari Pragatisil Sahitya Chakra will organise a programme based on literature-related events at 1 pm.

The third day�s programme will showcase the rich ethnic culture through folk dances by troupes of Rabha, Garo and other tribes.

On January 4, a seminar on �Biodiversity of Chandubi� will be organised, while on January 5, a seminar on �Chandubi Festival : Making an effort to revive and promote traditional tribal ethnic culture� will be organised.

The Chandubi Festival organising committee said that an exhibition will also be an added attraction to the visitors, which will showcase the traditional art and culture of the Rabha community. Mouth-watering ethnic dishes will be another attraction of the festival, the organisers informed.
