Champamati hydel project inaugurated

KOKRAJHAR, Jan 12 � BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary today inaugurated the Rs 35-crore 4 MW Champamati Hydel Power Project and the Rs 43.85-crore renovated Champamati Irrigation Project at Nandalbari in Chirang district in the presence of State Power and Industry Minister Pradyut Bordoloi.

The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Kampa Borgoyari, Dy Chief of BTC, Sumit Zenat, Principal Secretary, Power, Govt of Assam, EM�s, GM�s, MLA�s of BTC amongst others.

Later, a public meeting was organised in this connection at the some venue. Speaking on the occasion, Bordoloi said that the State Government facilitated construction of dozens of small hydro power generating projects in many places of the State in the last few years to meet the challenge for providing electricity to the people of Assam.

At the same time, he also said that the commissioning of this Champamati hydro project was completed in a record time of two years.

Addressing the gathering, Mohilary, said that without power, development and industrialisation cannot be possible. Keeping this in view, BTC initiated small hydel projects in various places of BTC area. He further said that infrastructure development in BTC area is going on in full swing and that other developmental works are also being carried out by the BTC authority.

Borgoyari, Chandan Brahma, Transport Minister, V Pani, MD, Hayen Hydel Power Co. Ltd., amongst others also spoke on the occasion.

If may be mentioned here that it is a run-of-the-river project which utilises the flow of the Champamati river and it was constructed by Hyderabad-based M/s Hayen Hydel Power Co Pvt Ltd.
