Chakka bandh passes off peacefully at Badarpur

By Correspondent

BADARPUR, Oct 6 - In demand of construction and repair of various roads of Badarpur town and the entire Karimganj district, the 36-hour chakka bandh called by the Rasta Bachao Movement Committee that began at 5 in the morning yesterday ended peacefully this afternoon. The normal life was totally disrupted with all sorts of vehicles completely off the roads. Students and office goers from distant places could not attend their educational institutions and offices due to the bandh. A large number of picketers blocked the roads in various places like Badarpur ghat, Badarpur ST Road, Bhanga, Chargola etc., and shouted slogans in support of their demand. During the bandh hours at Badarpur town on Monday evening, the officer-in-charge of Badarpur Police Station Ishwar Singh, along with other police personnel, tried to lift the bandh forcefully but could not succeed. In reaction to the aggressive attitude of the police, the protesters gheraoed the Badarpur PS and demanded immediate transfer of the officer-in-charge. On receiving information, the senior police officials from Karimganj came to Badarpur town and brought the situation under control.
