GUWAHATI, Jan 5 - The Joint Platform of Assam Motor Workers Union (JPAMWU) today announced a 48-hour chakka bandh on January 8 and 9 in the State in support to the nationwide strike called by central trade unions and federations of the country against the anti-people and anti-motor worker move of the BJP-led Central government.

According to the JPAMWU, the protest will be held against the amendment of the Motor Vehicle Act and privatisation of the transport sector.

Through the proposed Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill 2017, the government is going to privatise the whole transport sector of the country. Consequently, all transport sectors would be occupied by some companies like Ola and Uber in the near future, JPAMWU said in a statement.
