Chadak Puja at Gauripur

GUARIPUR, April 11 - The historic 160-year-old Chadak Puja of the royal family of the Gauripur Zamindari Estate got under way with a five-day programme from April 9 at Chadakbaridham situated on the bank of the Laukhowa Beel.

The first day�s programme of �Adhibhash� was performed with all traditional rituals, which was followed by �Dhupbati Khela.� The programme of �Kata Bhanga� was performed on Monday. The historic Chandi dance will be held tomorrow. The main Chadak Puja is scheduled to be performed on April 13. As many as 11 members of the Chadakia, headed by Sankar Deobangshi, will display a number of games based on the Shiva Puran. Every year, hundreds of devotees assemble to offer prayers to Lord Shiva. A big mela is also slated to be held on the occasion.
