IMPHAL, Jan 31: The Centre has in-principle approved a proposal for construction of a ring road connecting all district headquarters of Manipur.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said the Centre was concerned about certain issues related to land compensation, and requested his ministerial colleagues to convince the people in this regard.

During his sixth visit to Tamenglong after becoming Chief Minister, Biren Singh addressed a function at the district headquarters on Saturday wherein he inaugurated 14 projects besides laying foundation stones for eight new projects.

The newly inaugurated projects include phase-I of the water supply scheme at Tamei, rain water harvesting scheme, Nongmai High School building, boys hostel and a bypass to the Mini Secretariat, among others.

The function was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, Works Minister Th Bishwajit and other Cabinet ministers besides Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar and DGP LM Khaute.

The Chief Minister said that his government is working for all-round development of Tamenglong district.

He said that various government projects and schemes, including the Imphal-Kangchup-Tamenglong road, widening of Tamenglong-Khongsang, the Barak and Makru bridges, etc, for the welfare of the people.

He informed that the State government is planning to upgrade the Tamenglong district football ground by laying artificial turf.

Different local bodies and individuals of the district submitted memorandums to the visiting ministerial delegation.
