Centre�s assurance to Arunachal on connectivity issues

ITANAGAR, April 27 - Union Minister of State for Communication (independent charge) and Railways Manoj Sinha has assured that Arunachal Pradesh will have workable connectivity and IT facilities by December 2018.

This assurance was given by the minister while he called on the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (retd) at the Raj Bhavan here today. During the meeting, they held discussions on various issues pertaining to electronic connectivity and the telecommunication sector of the State.

The Governor, while sharing his observations with the Union minister about his recent tour to East Kameng district, said that due to lack of electronic connectivity many important Central Government schemes are not being implemented properly. He also drew the attention of the minister towards the slow pace of laying of optical fibre cables across the State and requested him to expedite the work.

Highlighting the challenges before the telecommunication network in Arunachal Pradesh, the Governor said that providing electronic and Internet connectivity is the need of the hour. Local inhabitants and Army personnel posted in remote and interior areas find it difficult to keep in touch with their family members in case of emergencies, he pointed.

The Governor also requested the minister to post a Deputy Director General (IT) rank officer in the State as it would aid in expeditious implementation and monitoring of OFC projects and other telecom services in the State.
