Centre urged to stop issuing notices

NILAMBAZAR, Nov 19 - Nagarikwata Suraksha Sangram Samiti, Karimganj, submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister demanding the Government of Assam to stop issuing of mass scale fresh notices to the linguistic minorities of the State in the name of foreigners (Bangladeshis) during the ongoing process of NRC update and till the Citizenship Act 1955 is amended. It also demanded steps by the Government of Assam to stop sending bona fide Indian citizens to the detention camp immediately.

They urged the Government of India to introduce a new Citizenship Amendment Bill to ensure citizenship to all religious and linguistic minorities who have entered India due to disturbing civil rights and to save their lives and properties. They also expressed great concern over the using the �OI� and �NOI� word against the name of the people in the ongoing process of finalisation of NRC.

The Nagarikwata Suraksha Sangram Samiti further demanded withdrawal of the screening committee in respect of Foreigners Tribunal Cases. Earlier, they took out a protest rally in Karimganj. Advocate Arunagsu Bhattacharjee, Sanchita Sukla, Nandan Kumar Nath, Sunit Ranjan,were among those present in the rally.
