Centre urged to improve RIMS hospital

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, Jan 31 Union Health Minister has been urged to institute an expert committee to look into the performance of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital in Manipur for improvement in its functioning.

Opposition leader and Manipur Peoples Party (MPP) leader O Joy has sent a letter to the Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad in this regard.

O Joy told media persons here on Friday that the Centre should look into the proper functioning of the hospital besides checking the facilities and equipments at RIMS.

Whether the facilities and services are being properly utilised and delivered to the public, the opposition leader asked in his letter.

The committee may be asked to submit recommendation to improve the services and facilities in the institute, it added. Frequent reports on the institute are appearing in the newspapers for wrong reasons, he alleged. Standard facilities are not available in the hospital and if available, are either not fully utilised or not utilised at all.

The emergency service is in complete disarray, he added. Timely care and intervention could have saved many incidents of acrimony between the public and staffm he also said.

O Joy and Dr I Ibohalbi had raised the issue of RIMS doctorss alleged negligence with regard to the death of Joys son Subhash at Shija Hospital on October 26 after he was forced to shift from RIMS.
