NALBARI, April 27 � The Barkshetri Congress committee in Nalbari district has geared up its activities for the ensuing panchayat election to be held in December next.
The Barkshetri and Borbhag block Congress committees jointly organised a large public meeting at the premises of Mukalmua Rajiv Bhawan on April 22 with the participation of about 15,000 Congress workers.
The meeting conducted by Dr Bhumidhar Barman, adviser to the Chief Minister was addressed by Bhubaneswar Kalita, chairman of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC); Paban Singh Ghatowar, Union Minister for DoNER, Rockybul Hussain, Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development and Forest, Nilamani Sen Deka, Minister of Agriculture.
Addressing the meeting, Union Minister Ghatowar said that the Congress Government always want the development of village areas. He added that the Central Government has decided to provide Rs 400 crore for the green revolution in the State. On the other hand the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, in order to strengthen the self help groups (SHGs) in the State has decided to provide Rs 10,000 to each SHG, Ghatowar said.
Speaking at the meeting, the APCC chairman Bhubaneswar Kalita stated that the State Government has succeeded in evaluating poverty in the State.
Now there is no problem of food and clothes in the State, Kalita added. But, according to him the people in the State are now crying for the solution of problems like road, electricity, pure drinking water etc. He called upon the Congress workers to elect the Congress nominee in the panchayat poll for the all-round development of the State.
The Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Rockybul Hussain said that the department has decided to construct the official quarters of block development officer, junior engineer and panchayat secretaries in the same campus in 219 block offices. He added that it will enhance the work culture among those officials after the completion of this new system.
Hussain further added that the social audit system introduced in 2202 gaon panchayats will also bring transparency in rural works.
Addressing the meeting, Dr Bhumidhar Barman called upon the concerned minister to timely release the MNREGA fund as there are many labourers in Nalbari district. He also requested to provide more IAY houses to the flood and erosion hit areas of the district.
