Centre monitoring Manipur: BJP

By Sobhapati Samom

IMPHAL, Nov 9 Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre is monitoring Manipur to make it a corruption-free government, BJP National Secretary Shyam Jaju said today.

The BJP leader was here to attend the day-long State level workshop cum membership mission under the theme Strong BJP strong India at its State office here on Sunday.

The credibility and the accountability of the government cannot be judged without any competitor, said the BJP National Secretary. The BJP Government at the Centre does not have an indifferent attitude towards State Governments ruled by other parties, he clarified.

Highlighting various welfare schemes taken up under the initiative of the Prime Minister within a short span of time, he appealed to the party workers to work hard to strengthen the party instead of having frustration in view of the upcoming Panchayat and Assembly elections in 2017.

The BJP leader also formally launched the membership drive of the party in the State. A massive country-wide membership drive of the party was formally launched in New Delhi on November 1.

The membership drive in Manipur will continue till March 31 next year and the party is targeting one lakh primary members.

In his keynote address, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary (Organisation) S Premananda said that BJP had received around 17.16 crore votes in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election which means that a total of 31per cent votes are in favour of the party.

However, the party has around 3.25 crore primary members which means around 10 crore people who support the party have not joined the party due to various reasons, he added.

BJP Manipur president and former Union Sports Minister Thounoajam Chaoba, Prof Gangmumei Kamei and other party leaders were also present at the workshop.
