Centre ill-prepared to protect Arunachal

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 7 The Government of India is not at all prepared to protect the people of Arunachal Pradesh in case of a war with China, said All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) adviser Gumjum Haider while talking to The Assam Tribune.

Haider, who is also the general secretary of the North East Students Organization (NESO), said that over the years, the Government of India has failed to take any step for infrastructure development in Arunachal Pradesh and till date, the State does not have all weather roads to connect Itanagar with the district headquarters.

Haider pointed out that till date, the McMahon Line has not been demarcated properly and under the circumstances, infiltration from Chinese side cannot be ruled out. He said that India is keen on sealing the international borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh and that is not the case with China as even the international boundary has not yet been properly demarcated.

The AAPSU adviser pointed out that China has been developing its area just across the international border and in this regard, India is lagging far behind. In case of a war with China, the Government of India is not at all prepared to guard the people of Arunachal Pradesh. The Central leaders always claim that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India, but unfortunately, no step has been taken for the development of the State, he added.

The students body blamed the Government of India for the unfortunate death of Arunachal Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and said that he had to travel by chopper despite bad weather only because of lack of proper road communication.
