Centre extends truce with DHD

NEW DELHI, July 11 � The Centre on Wednesday announced extension of ceasefire pact with Dima Halam Daogah (DHD) for another six months.

It has been mutually agreed with DHD Group in North Cachar Hills to further extend Suspension of Operations (SoO) for period of six months up to September 9, an official spokesman of the Home Ministry said.

An agreement of Suspension of Operations (SoO) between the security forces and DHD has been in operation January 2003 and has been extended periodically. Tripartite talks on the demands of DHD are continuing.

A Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) headed by Joint Secretary (North East), has been constituted to review the implementation of agreed ground rules. Meetings of JMG have been held periodically.

Tripartite talks on the demands of DHD are continuing with interlocutor, P.C. Halder. Last round of tripartite meeting with the outfit was held on December 17, last year to finalise Memorandum of Settlement.

The (DHD) raised its ugly head in North Cachar Hills District after December 1994. In December 2002, (DHD) had come forward and expressed its willingness to give up violence.
