Centre depriving Tripura, says Sarkar

AGARTALA, March 18 � Outlining the government�s priority sectors, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Monday said that lapses in core sectors like agriculture, education, healthcare, irrigation and drinking water would be augmented within next one and half years.

While replying to the discussion on Governor�s address, the Chief Minister gave a detailed account of the development scenario in the State. �From the historic elections with highest ever turnout of 94 per cent, to huge turnout of women voters in the election, all important aspects were mentioned in the Governor�s address�, he said.

Sarkar said the State Government has adopted an alternative path to ensure welfare of common people amidst non-cooperation from the Centre.

�Like other States, Tripura depends on the Centre but we are being deprived of our legitimate rights by the Central Government. Despite the deprivation, the government is doing its best to uplift the socio-economic condition of the people�, he said.

Noting that the development could not reach up to the mark due to the non-cooperation from the Centre, the Chief Minister said the government would improve the existing success in the field of core sectors like agriculture, education, healthcare, employment generation and electricity.

The areas where irrigation has not been extended yet, will be covered with integrated irrigation facilities within next one and half year, he said adding that deficiency in healthcare sector will be augmented in the next one and half years.

The democracy which has been penetrated to the grass-root level, will be strengthened further, he added.

Members of treasury bench like Shyamal Chakraborty, Priyamoni Debbarma and Padma Kumar Debbarma also took part in the discussions.

Opposition Congress legislators did not join the session as it had already announced a boycott of the entire session in protest against the post-poll violence.
