Centre clears BBCI takeover

NEW DELHI, March 21 - The Centre has cleared the proposal of taking over of Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati (BBCI) under the administrative control of Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai.

In reply to a Lok Sabha question, Minister of State for DoNER Dr Jitendra Singh said that the Department of Atomic Energy forwarded a proposal of taking over of BBCI under the administrative control of Tata Memorial Centre to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) for its approval.

The CCS in its meeting held on June 7, 2017 approved the proposal of taking over of Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati under the administrative control of Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai.

The minister also confirmed that a proposal for taking over of the cancer institute was received from Assam Chief Minister on October 4, 2013. He said Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati was taken over by the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India on November 27 last.
