NEW DELHI, Oct 14 - The Centre is still waiting for the final report on the 2,000 MW Lower Subansiri Hydropower Project.
Replying to questions, Union Minister for Power Piyush Goyal said that the Centre has still not received the report of the expert committee appointed to look into the Lower Subansiri hydropower project.
The eight-member committee, which includes four members from Assam and four from outside the State, was set up by the Ministry in December 2014 to review all aspects of the NHPCs Subansiri Lower Hydro Electric Project. The committee was supposed to submit its report to the Power Ministry within the next three months, but failed to do so due to difference of opinion among the members.
The construction of the project has been stalled for over three and half years due to widespread protests.
According to sources in the Power Ministry, there has been a divided opinion between the groups from Assam and outside.
While members from Assam are of the view that the entire structure should be reviewed with focus on more safety measures, the group from outside the State looks satisfied with the existing steps, reports said.
The group from Assam, meanwhile submitted an interim report in May.
