Centre admits satra land encroachment

NEW DELHI, Aug 5 � The Centre has admitted that lands belonging to few satras, which are over 100-year-old are under encroachment.

Yes, according to details furnished by Assam Government, land measuring 73 bighas, four katha and one lecha of old satras are encroached upon, said Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanswamy in a Rajya Sabha written reply to a question by Kumar Deepak Das.

According to information forwarded by Assam Government, steps have been taken to remove encroachments under Section 18 of the Assam Land Revenue and Regulation Act, 1886. The deputy Commissioner and sub-Divisional Officers have been directed by the Government of Assam to keep the land attached to satras free from encroachment, he added.

The Minister, however, denied the Centre having released some funds for development of old satras.
