Central team attends meet on Jal Shakti Abhiyan in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, Aug 22 - As a part of the Jan Andolan for Jal Shakti Abhiyan, several awareness meetings are being organised around the distinct of Dima Hasao by the line departments directly involved in the programme. One such meeting was held at Choto-washilling-II village community hall under the Diyungbra block on Wednesday where a three-member team from the Government of India, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, also attended along with officials from other departments of Dima Hasao.

The meeting was organised by the Pan Rural Development department of Dima Hasao in collaboration with various line departments such as PHE, Agriculture, Irrigation, Forest, Fishery and Soil Conservation.

Around 500 villagers attended the awareness meeting where people shared their concerns on various water scarcity and agriculture-related issues experienced by them.

After a thorough brief about the purpose of the meeting, representatives from each department spoke on the need to integrate actions of every plan with water conservation plan.

Vandana Jain, Joint Secretary, Government of India and Central nodal officer, in her speech, encouraged the officials to involve as many people as possible, including SHGs, NGOs, community, students, etc., to cooperate in the campaign for water security in the district so as to ensure a better future to fight water scarcity.

Deputy Secretaries from the Central government, Bhaswar Gangopadhyay and Rajesh Kumar Gulati, were also present and interacted with the people during and after the programme. The Central team visited various project sites since their arrival on Tuesday accompanied by Diyungbra�s Block Development Officer (BDO) Vahlhai Doungel.

Speaking on the occasion, council secretary and DRDA project director LZ Nampui said, �There should be sustainable efforts to conserve water bodies and to protect and preserve water resources, recharge and renovate the water bodies at schools, institutions, community halls, for which the departments alone cannot attain success. We need people�s cooperation to be successful in this Jan Andolan for the Jal Shakti Abhiyan to fight water scarcity in Dima Hasao.�
