Central Government at your doorstep: PM

By RAJU DAS

SHILLONG, Dec 16 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the Central Government is now at the doorstep of North East, as more Central Ministers have visited the region to oversee its development in the past three years, than the total number of such visits in the previous 70 years.

Addressing a public rally here, Modi was critical of the Congress party and said we have brought the Central Government at your doorstep and over 150 Central Ministers visited NE in the past three years, to oversee its developmental works and hear peoples grievances.

Modi said such frequent visits were made possible as NDA Government has accorded top priority to develop the region. Therefore, he informed, specific instructions were given to Union Ministers to visit the region every 15 day and be here to interact with people, hear their grievances and oversee the developmental works, Modi said to a cheering crowd at Polo Grounds here.

Stating that North Eastern Council was never taken seriously by the Congress after its formation in 1972, Modi said, he is the second Prime Minister to attend its annual meeting after Prime Minister Moraji Desai. Modi attended the NECs plenary held here in 2016.

Modi said the Congress party, in power in Meghalaya for the past 15 years, has been indulging in corrupt practices over the years by siphoning funds meant for lactating mothers, children and from other schemes.

He specifically mentioned the CAG report of 2015-16 in which Central fund of Rs 908 crore was denied to the people of the State as the State Government didnt utilise the fund meant for the education sector.

Where is the money, Modi asked in his typical style. He questioned Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, who is a medical doctor, and said that despite being a doctor, Sangma has failed the health sector of the State with poor condition of medical sub-centres, hospitals and shortage of doctors.

He futher attacked the Congress Government in the State and said that despite the State having rich mineral deposits it is lagging behind, while having the potential of being a leader in terms of investment and industries in the region.

This (Congress) Government is not for the people, but for the mining mafia, Modi said.
