Centenary celebrations of Cotton hostel

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 6 The centenary celebrations of the Anundo Ram Barooah Hostel (Third Mess), Cotton College, will begin tomorrow with the ceremonial flag-hoisting at 9 am, and will be followed by a ceremonial procession at 10 am.

Spanning several batches of the hostel, the participants will present some cultural items. An event to open at 11.30 will provide reminiscences from past boarders in the form of a photo exhibition. It will be followed by a get together where the young and old hostellers will interact. A highlight of tomorrows centenary procession will be the participation of a number of inmates who stayed at the hostel in the 1940s.

We are expecting a turnout of over 500, comprising alumni and present hostellers, including those from other hostels of the college. They will be performing cultural items during the procession, Joydeep Baruah, general secretary of the Centenary Celebration Committee, said.

On January 8, the main centenary meeting will commence from 11 am. A commemorative edition named Pratidhwani will be released during the event. In the evening a cultural function will take place where a number of eminent artistes, including Barnali Kalita, will perform. The organisers have arranged for lunch and dinner for the participants.
