Centenary celebration of Sree Sankardev Mandir

NAGAON, Feb 28 � �Truth and justice together is religion. We pray to different gods and goddesses through different ways but people are the main centre of gravity of the religion,� observed Satradhikar Narayan Chandra Goswami of Majuli Natun Kamalabari Satra while addressing the open session of the centenary celebration of Sree Sankardev Mandir here recently. He further stressed on the change of character and thoughts of the people for creating a �Ram Rajya� in the true sense.

Addressing the function, Sankari scholar Dr Sanjib Kumar Barkakati highlighted the religion and philosophy of Srimanta Sankardev. The president of the celebration committee advocate Sibanath Bhuyan was in the chair.

In the function, Sahityacharyya Mahim Bora formally released the souvenir, Manikut which was edited by noted literateur and communist Madhuryya Mandit Baruah.

The three-day function started with �Usha Kirtan� which was followed by the hoisting of the �dharma dhawaja� by former president of the mandir management committee, Haricharan Bora. The working president of the celebration committee, Prafulla Kumar Saikia started the smriti tarpan.

A colourful procession with the flavour of Satriya culture marched through the main thoroughfares of the town. The procession was flagged off by well-known surgeon and social worker Dr. Jitendra Nath Gohain.

A cultural function, Bhaona, Namprasanga, Bhagawat prabasan, etc., were also arranged during the celebration.
