Centenary celebration of city school

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Nov 10 The MCME School (now a High School) established in the year 1914 is celebrating its centenary through a year-long programme of events. The celebrations commenced in September through a well-attended inaugural function.

The centenary celebrations committee was recently reconstituted with the eminent scholar and litterateur Dr Hiren Gohain as its chairperson and Dr Monoranjan Chaudhury as its working president, Jyotiprasad Saikia (retd IAS) as spokesperson, Jiban Goswami as the general secretary and Dr Tribodh Das as the treasurer.

In a meeting of the committee held recently, it was decided to hold on different dates, an inter-school quiz competition, a seminar, an alumni meet and a cultural function as part of the year-long celebrations spread over 2014-15.

The committee also decided to make an appeal to the ex-students of the school for their whole-hearted participation in making each of the events a success. It was felt that even after repeated attemps a large number of ex-students could not be contacted so far. The committee, therefore, decided to make another appeal to all the ex-students of the school to contact the centenary celebrations committee and to come out with their suggestions and make their contributions/donations to help in celebrating the centenary in a befitting manner. This was stated in a press release.
