Celebrations continue at city Bihutolis

GUWAHATI, April 16 - Various Bihutolis across the city celebrated Rongali Bihu with a variety of programmes. At many Bihutolis, the celebrations that started on Saturday are still continuing.

The Mukoli Bihu organised by the All Guwahati Students� Union (AGSU) at the Judges� Field on Saturday, witnessed huge public participation.

The day�s proceedings began with litterateur Dr Nagen Saikia hoisting the Bihu flag and AASU president Dipanka Nath unfurling the flag of the student outfit in the morning. AASU general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi offered tributes to the martyrs.

Handique Girls� College students presented a chorus in memory of the martyrs.

A number of eminent personalities of the State who have made significant contributions in the spheres of art, culture and literature, were felicitated on the occasion. Among them were Padmashree recipients PG Baruah, Arup Kumar Dutta and Dr Jayashree Goswami, Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Haricharan Bhuyan Barbayan, Sahitya Akademi award winners Jayanta Madhab Bora, Dr Rita Boro, family of the late Babul Tamuli, Gobinda Basumatary, Ranjita Biswas, Chandramoni Upadhyaya, Harendra Nath Barthakur, family of the late Renu Boro, Sahitya Akademi Yuva Bota recipients Pratim Baruah, Bijit Gwra Ramchiyari, Sangeet Natak Akademi Ustad Bismilla Khan Yuva Bota awardee Usharani Baishya, National Film Awards winners Rima Das, Mallika Das, Bhanita Das and Utpal Borpujari, and young cricketer Riyan Parag.

AASU adviser Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharya anchored the felicitation ceremony.

At the Mukoli Bihu compered by danseuse Dr Mallika Kondoli, several prominent Bihu troupes and troupes representing the State�s diverse ethnic groups enthralled the audience. Tribute-paying special programmes � Nostalgia and Akajoli Shradhanjali � in memory of artistes Biju Phukan, Dilip Choudhury and Rameswar Pathak were some other highlights. The day ended with a community Bihu dance in which all present including the artistes participated.

At the Pub Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan, Chandmari, the top three Asom Bihuwati honours � Asom Bihuwati-2018 � went to Mousumi Bora, Jagriti Handique and Barasha Gohain respectively. They won cash prizes of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively besides other gifts. Mousumi was also honoured with the running trophy of a gold crown as the best Bihuwati.

Nibhamoni Baruah, Dikshita Bargohain and Nayana Bharali were adjudged the best three female Bihu dancers respectively, while Rupam Hatimuriya, Janmoni Phukan and Nirmal Bargohain respectively were the top three best Bihuwas. Jyotibikash Bora, Devajit Tamuli and Dhrubatara Bhattacharya were the best three dhulias respectively.

The best three Bihu Husori teams were Dihing Bihu Husori, Rangmon Enajori Bihu Husori and Cheng Bihu respectively.

Kharghuli Rongali Bihu Sanmilan celebrated the occasion on the Lal Singh Academy playground with a three-day programme that started on Saturday. Educationist Dr Arupjyoti Choudhury unfurled the Bihu flag, while writer Eli Ahmed released the souvenir Luit. The cultural evenings have featured a number of popular artistes including Zubeen Garg, Kusum Kailash, Priyanka Bharali, etc.

Brihattar Japorigog Rongali Bihu Sanmilan celebrated Bihu at the RG Baruah Kalakshetra with a three-day programme. Various competitions including Bihuwati, diha naam, biya naam, uruli, etc., marked the occasion. Among the prominent artistes who performed during the celebrations were Zubeen Garg, Krishnamoni Chutiya and Babu.

The 53rd Ulubari Rongali Bihu Sanmilon is celebrating the occasion on the premises of Mahadev Mandir with a four-day programme. Various competitions including some on traditional sports, and an open all-Assam poetry contest are being held to mark the occasion.

Shree Gauhati Gaushala celebrated Rongali Bihu with various programmes, including cow worship.
