GUWAHATI, Sept 29 - The CBSE Far East Zone Swimming Competition, hosted by the Royal Global School (RGS), got under way at the Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex in Sarusajai here today. The event was flagged off by AK Pansari, chairman, RGS in the presence of Anubha Goyal, principal, RGS among a host of other guests and officials, stated a release.

The first day of the meet saw the dominance of schools from West Bengal as they went on to win three gold medals out of the four events held today.

Garima Joshi of Harayana Vidya Mandir, West Bengal won the gold medal in the 800 metres freestyle U-19 girls event while Bitoja Mukherjee of Mahadevi Birla World School of West Bengal bagged the gold in 200 metres freestyle U-17 girls event. Kathakali Das of South Point School, West Bengal clinched the gold in the 200 metres freestyle U-19 girls event while Niharjyoti Laskar of Shrimanta Shankar Academy, Guwahati won the gold in the 200 metres freestyle U-19 boys category.
