CBI to investigate killing of Shankarlal Swami

IMPHAL, Jan 6 � The State Cabinet has decided to hand over the kidnapping and subsequent killing of a private firm manager Shankarlal Swami to CBI to investigate into the matter and to find the facts leading to the incident.

Sources in Imphal on Saturday said that Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh chaired Cabinet meeting in Imphal and has taken a decision in this regard on Friday.

The Cabinet also approved to provide an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of manager Shankarlal Swami of the Imphal based firm Max enterprises.

Manager Shankarlal who was kidnapped on January 2 was found dead in the outskirt of Imphal on the following day. Four persons including two Indian Reserve Battalion jawans Yumnam Dinesh Singh (Rifleman number 112005777) and Laishram Herojit Singh(Rifleman number 2001247), both attached at 1st IRB stationed at Kangla Fort in Imphal were arrested in connection with the killing.The two other persons are Hanjabam Dipu alias Punananda Sharma of Brahamapur Thangapat Mapal and Oinam Govind of Waheng Khuman Mayai Leikai.

The Cabinet has also approved the formation of a special scheme for surrender cum rehabilitation of militants in the state, the source said.

Meanwhile, one more accused involved in the incident was picked up for questioning, police sources said on Sunday.

The accused identified as a minor and a resident of Waheng Khuman area in Manipur�s Imphal West district has been remanded till January 10 along with the other four accused who were arrested earlier, the source added.
