CBI raids business firms at Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, Nov 30 - A 38-member CBI team raided a number of business establishments of several persons including Sanjeev Kakoty and Babul Dihingia, allegedly involved in systematic theft of chemicals worth several crores of rupees from various installations of the ONGC, Assam Asset in Sivasagar and Nazira.

The team led by TL Jamung searched Kakoty�s Sudipta Energy and Equipment Pvt Ltd office at Station Chariali and the Darikapar Nowjan residence of Babul Dihingia. The team, raided more than a dozen locations at Sivasagar yesterday. On March 28 last, the CBI sleuths had seized two truckloads of costly chemicals used in drilling sites of ONGC and 36 drums of engine oil belonging to the ONGC. The CBI teams also raided the residences of Dhandev Mahanta and Jyoti Dutta Phukan, both employees of Sanjeev Kakoty.

It may be mentioned that SD Maske, the present Executive Director & Asset Manager, ONGC on assuming charge in August 2017 had urged the HQ in Dehradun to engage CBI to conduct investigations into allegations of thefts of chemicals in Assam Asset since a long time back, which had been crippling the PSU�s financial health in the region. A section of corrupt ONGC officials allegedly have been swindling a huge amount of money in collusion with fraudulent contractors from the establishment and one Arbind Kumar Sing, DGM (Drilling), Procurement & Maintenance, ONGC, was arrested by the CBI on charges of corruption a couple of months back.
