CBI probe into coal scam welcomed

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, July 17 - The Bharatiya Janata Party in Barak Valley has welcomed the step taken by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for a CBI probe into the coal scam in Barak Valley, steered mainly by Abdul Ahad, the coal mafia who was arrested recently.

Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul said that the step will help unearth many other underworld dealings associated with the business of illegal coal trade in the region.

Coal scam is not a new thing. It has been a sustained activity since the days of the Congress rule in the State. Quite in sync with the stance of zero tolerance against corruption by the Government, the Chief Minister has rightly opted for a much needed CBI inquiry which shall make things clear, Paul said on Monday.

He added that many other top shots are alleged to have their fingers in the scam pie.

On the other hand, the Karimganj district BJP president Subrata Bhattacharjee also supported the move for a CBI inquiry against Ahad. He said that when the mastermind behind the plan is interrogated, then other facets associated with the scam will automatically be revealed, besides exposing other players involved in the scam.
