CBI grills former Tripura minister on Rose Valley scam

By CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA, April 25 - Two CBI officials grilled former Tripura Social Welfare Minister Bijita Nath at MLA Hostel No. 1 amid tight security here today.

During the interrogation, the CBI sleuths sought certain clarifications on the multi-crore-rupee Rose Valley scam and tried to corroborate her earlier statements in this regard. Neither the CBI officials nor the former minister disclosed anything about the interrogation into the Rs 3500-crore ponzi firm scam.

It is learnt that at the end of the grilling session, the CBI officials gave a letter to the former minister in which it was acknowledged that she cooperated in the interrogation process.

Meanwhile, the CBI sleuths are all set to interrogate another former minister of the erstwhile Left Front Government and MLA Badal Chowdhury in the same MLA hostel on Thursday. His private secretary was also summoned to report to the CBIs local office for questioning.

Later, speaking to media persons, CPI (M) State secretary Bijan Dhar said he was not fully aware of the details of Wednesdays development. I have come to know that after the interrogation, the CBI team gave a letter to Nath mentioning that she was cooperative during the grilling session, Dhar, however, added.

The CPI(M) has been cooperating with the CBI right from the beginning of the probe into the scam. Whatever information is required from former ministers, MLAs or party leaders, we are ready to share with the CBI sleuths, he maintained.

Dhar further said the post-poll violence has continued in the State even after Chief Minister Biplab Debs assurance about taking stringent measures to check it. Two party workers were killed while two doctors owing allegiance to a CPI (M)-backed organisation were attacked by unknown miscreants. We hope the Government will take steps to stop the violence immediately, he added.
