Caution against burn injuries

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 9 - Cautioning against burn injuries caused due to ignorance and carelessness with crackers during Diwali, the Burn Care Foundation, a social unit of the NEMCARE Hospitals, said that maximum burn cases during Diwali happen due to mishandling of flower pot crackers.

Engaged in burn prevention programmes, the Foundation has asked the people to be extra careful with children, who often suffer injuries in their hands, faces and eyes during Diwali celebrations.

In the last five years, i.e. from 2010 to 2014, a total of 187 Diwali-related burn injuries were treated in our unit. In such incidents, 136 males and 51 females suffered burn injuries, said a statement from the Foundation. Of the total cases registered, 127 occurred while handling the flower pot (kolgos). Other activities of the Foundation include advance burn treatment that includes early excision and skin grafting. It also conducts burn training programme and clinical research activities.
