By Correspondent

DHUBRI, Aug 4 - A gang of alleged cattle smugglers attacked a team of Dhubri Police on Friday evening, when the team had arrested one Abdur Jobbar Bepari from Boxirhat Bazar, located on the West Bengal border, near the Assam-Bengal border.

The police was in search of Bepari, a resident of Dhubri district, since a long time for his alleged involvement in many cattle smuggling-related cases, but he always managed to flee. We got information that he was actively operating from West Bengal and has many cases registered in his name, said a police source. He also added that in most of the cases, Bepari smuggled cattle to Bangladesh and was also involved in financing such smuggling.

However, when the police team lead by Dhubri DSP (HQ) Trinayan Bhuyan along with officials of Dhubri, Chagolia and Boxirhat police nabbed Bepari from Boxirhat market, a gang resisted the police and also attacked them. In this attack, Pragjyoti Chaudhary, the PSO of Bhuyan was injured and the situation got under control only after Bhuyans blank firing. Meanwhile, in this chaos, a few other smugglers managed to escape.

In this regard, the police has registered a case.

The situation is under control and Chaudhary is recovering fast, said Bhuyan and added that the police is all set to curb cattle smuggling in the district.
