Cattle seized in Chirang district

BONGAIGAON, Nov 27 - Local residents of Simlaguri under Dhaligaon PS in Chirang district detained a Tata magic van recently and rescued seven cattle including three calves allegedly being transported by suspected smugglers.

Four other such doubtful vehicles carrying cattle fled the scene when the villagers were busy inspecting the first van.

Later, the Officer in charge of Dangtol Outpost, Md Sofiqul Islam came to the spot and seized the cattle after taking signatures from two local residents.

The cattle trader Anowar Hussain, a resident of South Chatipur, said his cattle was seized by the villagers because he could not pay the amount the two youths of the village demanded.
