GUWAHATI, Jan 21 - Several educational institutions and organisations like TISS, Guwahati, Cotton College State University, Students Federation of India, Xukia and others have expressed their angst at the casteist politics, that has resulted in untold miseries for Dalits.
As a mark of protest and rage towards such casteist politics, these organisations are holding a rally at Dighalipukhuri at 1 pm tomorrow.
Referring to the suicide of Hyderabad Central University PhD scholar Rohith Vemula, the organisers of the protest said that the Dalit scholar did not implicate anyone, and it was clear that the actions of the University officials and other casteist elements in the campus, who discriminated against him because he was a Dalit, led to his suicide and thus, the case was nothing less than institutional murder. A university is a fertile ground of ideas where students have equal rights to learn and discuss their own ideas. If this is the kind of discrimination faced by people from certain sections of the Indian society inside the protective environment of a university campus, it only reinforces the idea how bad casteism is in mainstream Indian society.
A draconian system of discrimination based on birth and name still operates in our society destroying education and basic freedom on all fronts of the society. So join us in the protest, and add your voice to ours for the sake of humanity, appealed the organisers to the citizens here.
