Caste census in Tinsukia from today

TINSUKIA, Jan 27 � The Socio Economic and Caste Census in Tinsukia district will commence tomorrow. The newly introduced census system replacing the earlier Below Poverty Line (BPL) census will be more specific in regards to the economic status of a family and data that will provided by the head of the family will be entered in a tablet PC on the spot.

Talking to the media in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner�s office here today, Prasenjit Gogoi, Addl. Deputy Commissioner said that the census would be completed in two phases to be divided for Urban and Rural areas in four revenue circles namely, Tinsukia, Margherita, Doomdooma and Sadiya.

The census will start tomorrow in the urban areas of Tinsukia and Doomdooma and in Margherita it will be start on January 30. Census for Sadiya will start in the first week of February and the ADC expressed hope that the entire census will be completed in 45 days.

For smooth operation of the census the entire district has been divided into 714 enumeration blocks out of which 107 are urban and rest 607 are in rural areas. Besides one enumerator for each block, 50 supervisors and 682 data entry officers would be engaged, the ADC informed.

Gogoi further informed that on receiving information from the enumerator, the supervisor would be responsible for cross verification of data provided by any head of a family. He also hoped that people would cooperate with the enumerators by providing facts.
