GUWAHATI, April 1 - Organisers of the Namami Brahmaputra Festival today filed a case at the Panbazar Police Station against an alleged fake Twitter handle which was reportedly posting derogatory comments. Magistrate Chinmoy Phukan, one of the members of the festivals organising committee, lodged the FIR.
Apparently, someone was using the same name and logo of the festival and posting malicious remarks about the festival, he told The Assam Tribune. Panbazar police have registered a case (177/17) under Section 66 (B) of the IT Act.
DCP (Central) Ranjan Bhuyan said steps are being taken to close down the account. We are also writing to Twitter seeking the details of the operator. Action will be taken once the persons involved are identified, Bhuyan said.
