Case against trader for cruelty to cat

GUWAHATI, Sept 22 - A case has been registered at Dispur Police Station against a shop owner Jyoti Pathak of Juripar, Panjabari area for allegedly hitting a cat on Monday.

The case has been registered under Section 429 of the IPC and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act after a written complaint was filed by Papori Hazarika, a member of NGO Avinava Prayash. According to the complainant, the shop owner had allegedly hit the cat repeatedly on the head in front of his shop at Juripar, which caused severe injury to the animal.

In her complaint the complainant mentioned that a passerby had shot a video of the scene and that the cat was in painful condition. The act was an extreme case of cruelty to animals, she said adding that such acts could be dangerous for society and animals. The police have started collecting all details related to the case.
