Car thieves thriving in Dibrugarh

By Our Bureau

DIBRUGARH, Nov 29 - Four days after a Bolero vehicle was stolen from the Chowkidinghee grounds here, the police are clueless on the daring theft. There are umpteen numbers of unresolved car, bike and domestic theft cases in the city, and the best the police do is visit the crime scene and then look for excuses not to nab the culprits.

This Tuesday evening, a Bolero vehicle (AS 06J 5000), belonging to local businessman Parikshit Dutta, was stolen from the Chowkidinghee grounds, which is deemed to be a high security venue. Dutta parked his vehicle to visit the ongoing 9th Dibrugarh Book Fair at the same grounds.

At the time, both the Dibrugarh SP and DC were present at the venue, to attend a book fair related function. While Dutta is shocked that his vehicle could be stolen from such a seemingly secure area, what is hurting him even more is that the police appear not a bit interested in trying to track the vehicle or solve the theft case.

He had lodged an FIR the same evening with the Milannagar police outpost. Additional SP H Barman told this newspaper that he would look into the matter.
